For 60 years, the Rahman family has been trapped in the cycle of slavery in Pakistan. Like his forefathers before him, Singh, now 50 years old, has spent his entire life making bricks in harsh, backbreaking conditions. Tragedy struck 10 years ago when Singh’s wife lost her battle with cancer, leaving him alone to raise their three children. To pay for her medical treatment, the family borrowed PKR 487,000 (about $3,800 USD). Even after years of labor, the debt remains unpaid, keeping them bound to the brick kiln. With their mother gone and father aging, the children have carried the burden of survival. Instead of going to school, they have worked since childhood in the suffocating dust of the kiln, shaping bricks and sacrificing their dreams to survive. Daily wages barely cover food, and freedom seems impossibly out of reach. But hope is possible. With support to pay off their debt, the Rhaman family can finally step out of slavery, the children can leave the kiln, pursue education, and build a future filled with dignity and opportunity.
