Lalitha Varma Honored on World Women’s Day

American author Harriet Beecher Stowe once said, “Women are the real architects of society.” Lalitha Varma, director of Sunrise Children’s Home India, is the embodiment of this quote.

Lalitha has tirelessly loved child after child, year after year, for 30 years in the home she has created in Bobbili. Bobbili is located in rural Andra Pradesh India. Though she did not build it herself, she is responsible for fostering this safe haven filled with love and care.

On March 7th Vizianagaram Superentendent of Police (SP) Mr Palaraju, IPS had conducted world women’s day in Ananda Gajapati Raju Auditorium vizianagaram. Government of Andhra Pradesh selected me as best women social worker. On behalf of police department chief guest Vizianagaram district collector Mr Vivek Yadav IAS had honoured me with “SPOORTHY” (inspiration) award given memento and certificate.

Born in Vijayawada in 1963, Lalitha grew up in a house that was open to all the children in their neighborhood. With a nurturing mother and a father always ready to make kids laugh, Lalitha regards her caring spirit as a gift born from both God and her childhood.

On 8th Government of Andhra Pradesh department of Women development and child welfare had conducted world women’s day in Ananda Gajapati Raju Auditorium. Women Development and Child Welfare Department Director Mr Roberts had honoured me with ‘BEST MOTHER” (orphan children) award.

With a bachelor’s in arts and education and serving several years as a teacher, Lalitha joined Elim Adventist Home in Hyderabad in various roles including associate director.

In 2000, Lalitha and her husband Raj answered the call to start Sunrise Home for destitute and homeless children in Bobbili. Beginning with only four children in a one-bedroom house, today they are parents to 128 children in a house with dorms, prayer halls and a play area. The home is fully funded by Child Impact International.
